About

The ISU 4U Promise is a partnership between Iowa State University and King and Moulton elementary schools to promote college-going in these two Des Moines schools. As part of the program, students who complete 5th grade at King or Moulton elementary school (in 2014 or later) are eligible for tuition awards to Iowa State University.

To nurture this college-going culture, during a typical non-COVID year, we look for ISU undergraduate and graduate students (of any major or department) who are interested in leaving a lasting impact on elementary students by volunteering in a classroom at King or Moulton for one hour once a week. However, this year, volunteering will be virtual until the pandemic is better controlled.

Interested volunteers must:

  • complete this volunteer application form
  • attend a virtual volunteer orientation training (several will be made available)
  • commit to volunteering once a week for a semester (or year!)
  • submit all documentation needed to work with youth
  • be committed to sharing about your experience as a student at ISU and inspiring ISU 4U Promise students to go to college
All students are welcome to apply to volunteer, and we highly encourage students from or who have experience with historically excluded populations to participate.
