About
This internship opportunity with the ISU Community Connections for Public Health (CCPH) outreach group is designed to provide students with practical experience in community health programming. The CCPH group is an outreach and service hub that works in partnership with the ISU Translational Research Network (U-TuRN) to support community partnerships focused on health programming.
Programming will vary depending on the nature of the partnerships and the local needs. A consistent role will involve ongoing support of the campus-wide ‘GivePulse’ tool that is managed by the CCPH group (see campus link or www.givepulse.com for details). This tool helps to connect students with community partners to support volunteerism and community action.
The intern(s) will work directly with the U-TuRN community engagement team to support overall efforts across the state. However, emphasis will be placed on serving local community needs in partnership with leaders involved in the Story County Quality of Life Alliance (www.storycountyQOL.org). This organization supports an array of local organizations and non-profit agencies. Thus, students will learn how to work with and through local community partners to support programming aimed at promoting health in the community.
Specific duties of this internship may include:
-
Facilitating communication and coordination with community partners
-
Assisting community partners with ongoing evaluation and programming needs
-
Supporting community / campus partnerships through the use of GivePulse tool
-
Enhancing communication efforts through newsletter, website and social media
Priority is given to students in Community and Public Health or the Physical Activity and Health Promotion Options in Kinesiology since programming builds from applied coursework. Stipends are not currently available but student interns would have flexible work schedules and the ability to work on campus.
