About
The Women's and Gender Studies Club is hosting a HerDrive campaign from Feb. 15-March 8th. Her Drive, a national non-profit that Women’s and Gender Studies has partnered with, "aims to close the gap for under-resourced people, particularly BIPOC who are disproportionately affected by poverty and homelessness. Bras and period products are frequently overlooked as essential items of donation." The UIW WGS Her Drive will support local women in our San Antonio community.
Our Drive will take place from Feb. 15-March 8th. A list of items we need and COVID-friendly pickups and drop information is located in the Google Docs available at the #UIW WGS Instagram and here:
You can drop off items at SEC 3150 from 8-5pm or schedule a pickup via the form.
A 5-minute read, titled “Even in the U.S., poor women often cannot afford tampons, pads”: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-menstruation-usa-idUSKCN1P42TX
Here's a quote from this article, "Between July 2017 and March 2018, interviewers administered surveys and led focus groups with interested women. The researchers found that 64 percent of the women had been unable to afford period products during the previous year and 21 percent experienced this problem on a monthly basis. Almost half had times during the past year when they had to choose between food and period products." More information about the national Her Drive organization is here: https://www.herdrive.org
